August 2006 Archives

Ok, what a frustrating day. Tried to get a bloody PCI card working and learned the harder way about voltages and whether PCI 5v, 3.3v, PCI Express. Needless to say, I've been much happier being a network guy than keeping up with PC hardware changes over the last decade and PCI alone is a moving target it seems.

Anyways... wonder what all the different notches mean? Check out page 7 in this PDF - very good stuff:

Cables, cheap!

|

monoPrice.com - best quality products at the lowest price

Great resource for cheap cables. Can never remember the URL (are you listening MonoPrice?) so storing it in my blog to find it next time.

WSS Backups

One of those things a blog is good for. Storing information that I can never find when I need it. Backing up WSS is easy and can be done with confidence after a quick read of this.

Vendor/Ethernet MAC Address Lookup and Search

Great little site when you you are in a hurry to identify a NIC/MAC address manufacturer.

Troubleshooting Unsupported Configurations in ISA Server 2004

I love the idea of ISA Server 2004 but gotta say, I'm pretty dissapointed by its limitations - follow the link for just some of what I have run across... :(

CamStudio - Free Screen Recording Software

I needed to make a quick PC based Windows tutorial with video and audio. Camtasia works great but is expensive. This might something to try as it also outputs to Flash. Trying it tonight!
