October 2006 Archives

Ugh, this one took a while to figure out. Microsoft pretty much says that if you get an 80072efd error when trying to login to Windows LIVE Messenger, that it must be to do with your firewall.

Well, I exhausted that effort and proved it useless information.

For me, and it sounds like your mileage will vary, it came down to my IE settings and the fact that I didn't have "Use SSL 2.0" checked in my Internet Explorer Advanced options (IE6 or IE7). Anyways, that fixed it for me ... finally. If you stumble across this and it helps you, you are welcome :)

Microsoft has patched the OWA S/MIME and IE7 problem. It's worthy of posting it here again, on the main page even.

The update is live at:

The associated KB, 924334 is also live at:http://support.microsoft.com/?kbid=924334

Important Note (this is also mentioned in the KB)
After this Hotfix is applied to the server, end users who have an S/MIME control installed on the client machines need to re-install the control from the Options dialog in OWA.

Internet Explorer 7 - The Good, Bad and the Ugly
Faster, more secure - gosh, we hope.

Hey folks,

Your friends at itgroove here.

This time we're here to tell you that Internet Explorer (IE) 7 has arrived. This latest web browser update from Microsoft finally brings tabs, better security and from what we have noticed ourselves, performance.

Sure, Firefox has had Tabs forever but with so many websites requiring IE in order to view their content and what with Firefox battling their own security demons and functionality shortcomings, IE7 is a welcome addition.

Besides, Microsoft is going to be *encouraging* your PC to have this shortly, so if you weren't planning on downloading it, you might at least want to be aware once it arrives.

While Microsoft continues to hype their latest product and with it, generate hype about Windows Vista (out soon!), itgroove would like to remind you that being the first on the block to install IE7 isn't always a good idea. Application incompatibilities, features (okay, bugs) and other delights may await you. Drop us a line if you'd like to know about our experiences with it so far, we'd be happy to share the good, bad and the ugly. That's it for this one, stay safe out there!

Sexiest Bandwidth Tester Yet

Ok, like the world really needed another one but heck, this one adds some style...

Speedtest.net - The Global Broadband Speed Test

Unable to Windows Update Your ISA Box? Getting error: 0x80072EE2?

You aren't alone but you know what, this is an easy fix. Simply configure IE on the ISA server (probably SP2) to use the ISA server as as Proxy Server (In IE, Tools, Internet Options, Connections, LAN Settings, Proxy Server).

Did this help you? Thank me, I spent 2 hours on it so you didn't have to. Buy me a beer of thanks! Buy Sean a beer

KB916106 - Maybe I'm alone on this but this patch KILLED ISA. Backups from the console took forever, inbound access worked yet outbound and throught the customer's DMZ were totally down, without any errors!!!

Yuck.

Anyways, watch out for this patch apparently...
